News: Championship Series To Continue... |
|
The semi-finals yesterday ended with the Emperors beating the Gold 4-1 to advance to this year’s championship series. It was a very close game, but the Emperors put together enough runs to come out on top of the defending champs. Gold played a very good solid game as expected, but were not able to put together enough runs to come out ahead of the Emperors. This led to a showdown between the best defensive team in the league in the Emperors versus the best offensive team in the league in the Ravens.
The championship series began with the Emperors beating the Ravens 2-1. It was a great defensive game on both sides as expected. In the second game of the series the Emperors seemed have everything going they're way. They immediately put up two runs and played great defense until the 6th and 7th innings. The Ravens capitalized on a couple of errors and when on to take that game 3-2. But, more importantly, the tide seemed to have shifted in favor of the Ravens and now the Emperors were up against the ropes.
Then finally the 3rd and final game was underway. The Ravens carried the momentum from the previous game and scored 3 runs, while the Emperors scored one. But, because of delays due to a few arguments and the rain, the game was stopped in the top of the 5th inning with the Ravens leading the Emperors 3-1. The remaining innings will be played on August 24th at 11am.

The final week of Stickball for the adults is coming up. The Emperors and Gold have a 3rd and final game to decide who will take on the Ravens in the Championship. The Ravens have pretty much cruised this entired season and are the favorites. But, with the Gold or the Emperors about to face them, things are too close to call. Gold has the experience and skill to win, while the Emperors are determined to prove that they can still compete with the best of them. But, of course, the Ravens have the confidence built up from a very successful season and are looking forward to completing a season with a championship victory.

News: Playoffs Taking Shape |
|
With the results of yesterday's games, the standings have now shifted with the Ravens remaining in 1st place, but the Gold taking second place.
3rd place is still yet to be determined and will be decided next Sunday with either the Bronx Knights or the Bronx Emperors taking 3rd place. The Emperors will face the Royals at 9am and a win by the Emperors will give them 3rd place. The rest of the standings are what's seen above.
We would like to congratulate Nothing Personal from Starling A.C. Although they did not make the playoffs, they displayed that they have the skill and determination to become a good team in the years to come. They ended they're season with a tie against the Royals, which is a big accomplishment against one of the better teams in this league. Thank you for joining the NYESL and we look forward to seeing you back here next year.

The first round of the playoffs is one game elimination and the subsequent rounds are two out of three. So, on Sunday the 1st round plus two games of the second round are played with the remaining game of the second round being played the following Sunday if necessary.
