Game of the Week Emperors Vs Diamondbacks - The game of the week turned out to be a dud. Only 3 players were able to get into the hit column for the D’Backs as they lost to the Emperors 5-1. Eric went 3 for 3 with an RBI for the Emps, while Ant-Live hit a pair of doubles and knocked in 2. Mark was the lone bright spot for the D’Backs with 4 hits.
Remaining Games Stem Vs Ravens - The Ravens grabbed the lead in the 4th when Elvin delivered with an RBI double, followed by Al-Boogie’s RBI single. But the Ravens were unable to hang on to the lead when Joey from the Stem came up with a clutch two-out hit in the bottom of the 6th. Joey’s hit knocked in two runs and helped the Stem salvage the tie.
Bandits Vs Saints - The Saints kept the win streak alive as they outlasted the Bandits 12-7 in a slugfest. The score was tied at 7 when the Saints struck for 5 in the 6th. Mick, Pete Jr., Joey, and Jason all drove in multiple runs for the Saints. The Bandits were able to stay in the game with Andy’s 2 RBI and Jonathans 3 RBI effort.
Diamondbacks Vs Gold - The D’Backs had been the talk of the league the last couple weeks but fell short against the Mighty Gold. Eddie had himself a game with 3 doubles and 2 RBI’s, and had plenty of help from Carlitos and Watts who combined for five hits and 3 runs driven in. Jay continued to add to his impressive season with a 3-hit effort while Tutu had 3 hits of his own, including a pair of doubles and 2 RBI’s.
Leland Vs Royals - This was a hard fought game on field 3 as both teams were looking to end their recent struggles. With the game tied at 3 in the 6th, Russ delivered the game winning RBI after Izzy’s triple with one out. Dave, Edwin and Ferdi all chipped in with 3 hits a piece. Ruben led the Royals with a 3 hit, 2 RBI effort, while Eric and Frankie chipped in with 2 hits of their own.
Gold Vs Saints - The Saints have been the surprise of the league so far this year and had a chance to make a statement against the Gold. The Gold made a statement of their own by crushing the surprising Saints 11-0. Dusty led the way for the Gold with 3 hits, including a HR with 3 driven in. Josh added a HR of his own along with 4 RBI's. The Saints were only able to get 3 hits on the Gold's stingy defense. Mick, Pete Jr. and Freddy had the Saints only hits.
Leland Vs Emperors - Leland continued its good day by beating the Emperors 4-1. Dave helped the Legends jump out to the early lead with 2-run single in the first and Jay put the game out of reach with a 2-run homer in the 6th. Edwin added another 4 hits, bringing his total to 7 for the day. Tito drove in the lone run for the Emperors while Vido, Eric and Rick had two hits each.
Stem Vs Royals - The Stem gave the Royals all they could handle in this high scoring game, but ultimately fell to the Royals by a score of 12-8. Christian led the way for the Royals with 4 hits and 4 runs driven in. Eric added 4 hits of his own while Kevin, Ruben, and Darnell had multiple RBI games. DJ and Sky hit big homeruns for the Stem, while Naz chipped in with 3 hits and D-Lush contributed with 2 hits of his own.
Ravens Vs Bandits - The last game of the day was another high scoring effort which saw the Ravens get the best of the Bandits. Al Boogie led the way for the Ravens with 2 homeruns and 3 batted in. Elvin added a 3-run HR of his own while Dax pushed in two more. Ralphie led the Bandits with 3 hits, while Mickey drove in 2 runs and Tony added a 2-run homer of his own.
Stayed tuned the Week 8 preview. See you on the Blvd!

Week 5 Recap
Game of the Week Bandits 5 Vs Stem 4 - Bandits used the momentum built from the MDT to gain an important win on the season. Tony, Jonathan and Ralphie took advantage of Mercado field and hit a HR each. Ralphie’s hurt the most, driving in 2 runs, while the other 2 just hit solo shots. Austin from Stem also took advantage and hit a HR himself.
Remaining games Emperors Vs Royals - Both teams fought hard for a win but ended up tied after 7 innings. Vido drove in 3 runs for the Emps and hit a HR. Petey was 3 for 4, with 2 RBIs for the Royals.
Leland 8 Vs Saints 3 - Leland once again dominated the Saints in back to back weeks. Father and son (Eddie & Edwin) led their team with 2 RBIs each and a combined 5 hits. Mick and Pedro were the only Saints with a multi-hit games
Gold 8 Vs Bandits 2 - The Gold continued their winning ways and the Bandits could not capitalize on their recent solid play to get a win. “Q” drove in 3 runs on 3 hits for the Gold. Pito was 2 for 3, 2 RBIs for the Bandits.
Royals 8 Vs Saints 2 - Royals have beaten the Saints 3 times this year, 2 times during the season. All 3 beatings were just that, BEATINGS! Petey, Eric and Kevin drove in 2 runs apiece and combined for 9 hits, 3 each. Christian was a perfect 4 for 4 in the victory.
Diamondbacks 7 Vs Stem 2 - The Dbacks are on the board! (And not just on the league’s board.) Congrats to Jay and Tutu for becoming NYESL Board members. Jay celebrated with a bang, hitting a HR and totaling 4 RBIs. His son, Martin, joined the festivities with a HR of his own.
Ravens 4 Vs Emperors 0 - Motivated? Ravens answered the challenge by blanking the Emperors in this game. Al Jr continued his hot hitting by going 3 for 3, 1 HR and 2 RBIs. Efrain added a solo HR for the Ravens as well.
Leland 0 Vs Diamondbacks 0 - Now this is surprising to see. I can’t remember the last time a game ended in a tie without any runs being scored. Warren and Izzy were 2 for 3 for Leland. Martin also went 2 for 3 for the Dbacks.
Ravens 4 Vs Gold 4 - The Ravens and Gold gain a point in the standings by finishing this game in a tie. Four Ravens players had an RBI, including Dax, who also went 2 for 3 in this game. The Gold hit 3 HR’s in this one. Betances, Pito and Dusty powered their team to this tie.
Make-up games (Wk4-May 19th) Emperors Vs Bandits - This game will be made up at a later date due to a scheduling error.
Leland 9 Vs Stem 2 - Leland took out their earlier frustrations on Stem. The bats were alive after a sluggish game against the Dbacks. Eddie F. was 4 for 5, 1 RBI and Doug was 3 for 5, 2 RBIs to lead their team to victory. Brandon’s bat woke up for Stem, going 3 for 4, 1 RBI in the losing effort.
Diamondbacks 7 Vs Ravens 2 - Starting this season winless after 3 weeks, the Dbacks really woke up this week by winning 2 games and tying another. Aggressive base running and timely hitting were the keys to this Dback victory. Tutu was 2 for 4, 2 RBIs and Lionel was 2 for 3 with a solo HR to power their team. Brunson accounted for both of the Ravens’ runs, going 2 for 4 with a HR.

Stats
Teams who do not fill out the stats completely will no longer have their team stats posted until they are filled out completely and correctly. It took 3 hrs to post stats because teams continue to leave the totals blank. It should not take that long to enter stats for the week, especially when they were not all received. I will no longer do the totals for anyone. It literally takes 3 minutes to do it after the game.

2012 Columbus Day Tournament - Update
Due to rain the semi-finals will commence next Sunday October 14th, 2012 at 10am. The next round of games will feature Gold Vs Leland on the Calderon Field and Royals Vs The Saints on the Sanchez Field. 3 of 4 teams are very hungry to get that first Championship, but Goliath (AKA Gold) is standing in their way.
So, will Leland finally overcome and get over the hump? Did the Saints acquire enough power to take this Championship? Are the Royals finally ready to take on this challenge? Come and see next Sunday...
A big thank you to all that came out to play and for those that came to support.
The NYESL family spirit was on full display this weekend!

Championship Matchup
Here it is, a rematch of last
year’s title game. Leland, this season’s #1 seeded team, will face the #2
seeded team, and also defending champions, Gold.
First, let’s review
Leland’s season. Leland finished the year with a 19-5 record and as previously
mentioned, finished as the first place team of the 2011 regular season. Leland
scored 140 runs, 2nd in the league in that category. They allowed a total of 64
runs, which is 2nd in the league as well. Their run difference of 76 is second
best. They are averaging just under 6 runs a game
(5.83).
Leland has several good offensive players on the team.
The following are some of the top players on Leland. Dave led
the team with 47 hits, 24 RBIs and a slugging pct of .849. Eddie, the team’s capt, is second on the team with 39 hits and is the team’s
leadoff batter. Edwin led the team with 5 HR’s . His
22 RBIs are second on the team. Jay also had a good season, posting 35 hits, 1
HR and finished third on the team with 18 RBIs.
Ferdi is another important player for Leland,
33 hits this season and a key player to the team’s infield defense.
Let’s review Gold’s season. Gold finished with a record of
18-4-2. The second place team lead the league in
several categories in the regular season. Gold finished first in runs (145),
runs against (58), and run difference (87). The Gold also averaged 6 runs a
game (6.04) and is the league’s best in that category as well.
The Gold has some of the league’s best hitters. I am
highlighting just a few. Well, we start with Pito,
just as he starts off every game as the team’s leadoff hitter. He had 48 hits,
8 HR, 23 RBI, .511 avg and a .936 slg
pct. Carlito was 2nd on the team with 45 hits and had
1 HR and 15 RBIs. Albie had 40 hits, 3 HR’s and 16
RBIs in just 19 games. Angel Jr. aka Dusty, led the team with 26 RBIs and had
24 hits and 4 HR’s. Stevie is just as important as those previously mentioned.
He had 16 RBIs this season. His infield defense at SS is important to his team
and he is considered one of the league’s best.
Championship Preview
This series should be just as intense as last year’s
championship. Both teams have high scoring teams and play very good defense.
The field of choice to start the championship is Field #1, otherwise known as
the field with trees. The team that doesn’t make many mistakes is going to come
out on top. Last week, Gold steamrolled over their opponents,
while Leland played in several close games. Both teams have some of the
league’s best hitters, especially at the top and in the middle of their
lineups. These teams are filled with battle experienced players and
knowledgeable veterans. If an edge has to be given to this matchup, it would
have to be Gold. Gold has the championship experience and have been in many
pressure filled games over and over. That doesn’t mean that Leland isn’t
experienced, because many of these guys have also played in big games. Leland
hasn’t beaten the Gold this season, losing by the scores of 7-4, 6-2 and 4-1.
Last time they played a game on field #1, Gold was able to put up 7 runs.
However, that game was played at the beginning of the season. If Leland wants
to dethrone the reigning champs, they will have to hit as a team and drive in a
good percentage of their base runners. For Gold to win, they just have to stay
as hot as they were last week. Their hitters were scorching the balls all over
the fields.
Who will be the 2011
NYESL Champions? Come by on Sunday 11am and find out!
See you on the Blvd!
