Week 6 Preview
Game of the Week
Gold Vs Leland - This game is actually a make-up game from May 19th. Separated by one win, Gold will try to hold off Leland in this game to hang on to the #1 spot in the league. This matchup will be played at the end of the day on the isolated field #3.
Remaining games
Gold Vs Stem - Gold has been their dominant selves during the past few weeks while Stem has been hit or miss. Last week it seemed that Stem missed Skylar. Hopefully he is around this week to help his team.
Saints Vs Diamondbacks - Saints are coming off a bad week going 0-2, while the Dbacks have played their best last week and were 2-0-1. If the Dbacks can keep their bats alive, they can definitely win this game.
Leland Vs Bandits - The Bandits have showed the league that they can play with any team in this league when they are playing as a unit. They will need that unity if they plan on beating the league’s 2nd highest scoring team.
Bandits Vs Diamondbacks - This is an interesting matchup of two evenly matched squads. The favorite is difficult to choose. If I had to choose one, I would pick the surging Dbacks.
Royals Vs Ravens - Both teams have woken up ad are ready to battle. This should be a great matchup and probably the 2nd game of the week, well, if we had one.
Saints Vs Emperors - Saints beat the Emps in their previous regular season meeting and hope for the same results this time around. Playing on field #3 benefits the long ball hitting Emps.
Ravens Vs Leland - Both teams have taken advantage of the homers hit on Field #1 and you can probably expect a few more in this game. Al Jr has been the Raven’s hottest hitter at this point of the season.
Emperors Vs Stem - Emperors are favored in this game especially based on the way Stem played last week. A quick turnaround is expected for the young Stem.
Gold Vs Royals - Oh boy, this is always one of the league’s most trash talking games when these two teams play. The team that lets their bats do most of the talking will be the winner.
Make-up games (Wk 4-May 19th)
Saints Vs Stem - This is a matchup of two struggling teams. Saints will have to wait a game before playing this one. Will the wait cool the squad off? Stem certainly hopes so!
Royals Vs Diamondbacks - After a day of difficult matchups, the Royals will have to stay focused in this game. The Dbacks will be hoping to complete a similar day as the one they had last week.
Gold Vs Leland - See the Game of the Week
See you on the Blvd!

Week 2 Preview
Game of the Week
Saints Vs DiamondBacks - Talk about story lines, this matchup is full of them. Lets’s start with last season, Saints ended Dbacks (then Personal) playoff run with an early round elimination. Both teams will be out to prove they are better than the other now, especially since five players left the Dbacks to play with the Jersey City Saints. This game can be seen at 10AM on Field #1.
Other games
Bandits Vs Leland - Leland is off to a good start being 2-0 but their run totals haven’t been exactly the “Leland” type. They have only scored a total of 5 runs in 2 games. Bandits have only scored 2 runs so far this season but only gave up a total of 7 last week.
Stem Vs Gold - Stem is happy to be 2-0 after week 1 but they know they have a challenge this week against last season’s champs. The Gold scored 11 runs last week and will be tough to stop on field #3. Let’s see if DJ can bring some power again for Stem.
Royals Vs Ravens - Ravens are 1-1 after facing two tough opponents last week. Royals are 0-2 after letting two chances to gain a victory slip away. Brunson has 4 RBIs on the season already for the Ravens. Royals’ Eric has 3 RBIs to lead his team. This should be one of the day’s best games.
Saints Vs Emperors - The Emps have scored 14 runs in 2 game’s, the league’s highest total so far. Saints are tied with two other teams for the league’s lowest runs against with two. Playing away from field #1 should help the Saints since Emps scored 10 there last week.
Bandits Vs DiamondBacks - Both teams are looking for their first win and seem to be evenly matched. They have both allowed the same amount of runs with 7 and are very similar with their offensive output.
Emperors Vs Stem - Based on last week’s game, Emps are the favorite in this game. Playing on field #1 can definitely help them, as noted before. Does Stem have the outfield to stop the homers from dooming them? Can Stem bring their own power to this game and field?
Gold Vs Royals - Both teams can hit and field. The Gold has the intangible clutch factor though and at this point, a better outfield. Josh is reunited vs his former mates and the Royals newcomers will try to make a better impression than they did last week?
Ravens Vs Leland - Field #3 hasn’t been the hitter’s field that we have known it to be so far this season. Both teams have played there once already and both scored exactly 4 runs on that field. We’ll eventually find out if these teams are that evenly matched.
See you on the Blvd!

Week 1 Preview
Game of the Week
Gold Vs Ravens - Probably should be the Old Timer’s game, but this is a no-brainer for me. This is a rematch of last year’s championship. This game takes place on Field #1 at noon and will have many score watching. Both teams are former champs and have a good outlook for the season. Carlito will be bringing his league high 38 RBIs to this game. Chungo will be bringing the league’s 9th best RBI total to his new team.
Other games
Royals Vs Emperors - Always a trash talking filled matchup. You can bet the Royals’ new team members will have plenty to say if the talk starts early. Interesting to see what the outfield will look like now for both teams.
Leland Vs Saints - Leland will be looking to jump start their season with a win. Saints will be gauging how good their new look team is by playing one of the league’s top teams.
Gold Vs Bandits - There’s not much information known about this season’s Bandits and starting the season on field #3 will keep the wonderers still wondering until later. We know what the Gold will bring and it might be ugly for Freddy’s team.
Stem Vs Diamondbacks - This game will definitely have one thing for sure, youth. Probably the league’s youngest team members will play an important role for both squads. A week one win would be a great boost for a young team.
Emperors Vs Ravens - Yeah, yeah, you are tired of hearing about Chungo leaving the Emps, but you can be sure the Emps will mention it a few times and vice versa during this match up. An early season win will start some braggin’ rights.
Saints Vs Royals - Royals know what the Saints look like after facing them twice on Columbus Day and a few times during scrimmage games prior to the season beginning. Saints have a new look out field to match the new one of the Royals.
Stem Vs Bandits - My power rankings show this matchup as the 7th vs 9th team respectively. Both teams will try to raise an eyebrow or two with solid play. Lil Davey and Jonathan are their team’s most improved players and will try to lead their clubs with solid play.
Diamondbacks Vs Leland - This is a nice test for the Dbacks. Playing one of the league’s best squads will tell where they are for this season. Will Boobie have shaken off the rust by this game to assist his Leland brothers with some RBIs?
See you on the Blvd!

Championship Sunday
This year there is a change to the playoff and Championship format for the regular NYESL season. The board made a collective decision to improve the attendance and interest during the playoffs. Instead of breaking out the playoffs into two Sundays, the entire playoffs, including the Championship, will be single elimination.
Come out to the Boulevard on Sunday, August 5th, and join us for a great time! We welcome all to BBQ, enjoy great music as the 2012 NYESL Champion is crowned. Games begin at 9AM.
Wild Card Game
Saints Vs Personal – This game will determine who will play the #1 seed, Leland in the first round of the playoffs. Both of these teams have shown improvement and potential as the season has continued. The Saints have yet to beat Personal, going 0-2-1 in their three games. That is all meaningless now though as both teams face off at 9AM on Field #2.
First Round Matchups
Stem Vs Gold - Gold has scored more runs than any other team this season, compiling 213 to be exact. Stem will have to try to match that firepower or at the very least minimize any extra bases that Gold tries to take. This game will be played @ 10AM on Field #1.
Ravens Vs Royals - Both teams can score multiple runs when things are going right. I believe this game will come down to who plays the best defense on the field. Royals have the edge scoring wise after obtaining more hits and runs scored as a team. Ruben leads the Royals with 23 RBIs while Al leads the Ravens with 22 RBIs. This game will be played @ 10AM on Field #2.
Emperors Vs Bandits - Already crowned the 2012 MDT champions, the Emperors are looking to add another title. Standing in their way are the Bandits. If the Bandits can come together as a team and minimize the mental mistakes, they might be able ruin the Emps run. You can be sure the Emps will use their experience to ensure a victory. This game will be played on Field #2 @ 11AM.
Personal/Saints Vs Leland - Leland is the #1 seeded team and have only lost 2 games during the regular season. They have also allowed the least amount of runs in the league. What does this all mean? It means that all the pressure is on Leland to make it to the Championship game. The road starts with a game versus the wild card winner. I’m pretty sure they will not be looking past their first round opponent when both teams play on Field #1 at 11AM.
I will be posting scores on the NYESL Facebook page as they occur. If you are not a member of the FB page, become one today so you are updated with all of the scores from the playoffs and all NYESL activities.
See you on the Blvd!

Week 10 Preview
Game of the Week
Leland Vs Gold - Split in the season series, this will be the determining game of the series unless this ends in a tie. Leland has been on a hot winning streak, winning their last eight games. By the way, their last loss during the regular season, it was to the Gold on June 10th. This matchup will take place on Field #2 at 10AM.
Other Matchups
Personal Vs Saints - Saints are 1-4 in their last 5 games while Personal is 2-3 in their last 5. Joey had a big weekend last week for Personal and as their #3 hitter, they’ll be hoping that he can continue his run producing ways. For the Saints, Lee has been heating up and is now sporting a .488 average.
Royals Vs Bandits - Royals are the league’s #4 team in runs scored while the Bandits are currently the 6th place team in the same category. This game will be played on Mercado field, which should benefit both. Expect a high scoring game, unless both are affected by the 10AM start.
Stem Vs Personal - Tied for points in the standings, this game means allot for both teams. 7th place is on the line and a win can also assist the close run differential. Davey has been hot for Stem and the team is averaging 6 runs in their last three games.
Falcons Vs Leland - Falcons have failed to score a run against Leland in their last two meetings and have been outscored by double digits in both games last week. Al will need some assistance driving in runs if the team plans on pulling out an upset.
Emperors Vs Royals - Always a good trash talking game, neither team wants to be the loser when these two meet up. Chris has been hot for the Royals, averaging 3 RBIs in his last 3 games. Ant-Live has been consistent recently, hitting safely in his last 10 games. The trash talking matchup is always good to watch as Tito and Chino square off once again.
Saints Vs Emperors - Saints are in need of a big game and no time better to have than against one of the league’s best teams. They definitely have their work cut out for them, especially since they will be battling on field #1, which the Emps thrive on. They are currently 6-0 and are averaging 8.5 runs on that field.
Gold Vs Stem - Both teams will be playing important games prior to this matchup. Adding a win here would definitely benefit the victorious team. Carlito leads the Gold with 28 RBIs but did not record a hit or a RBI last week. You can be sure he will be trying to change that this week.
Bandits Vs Ravens - Several players will be facing their former team during this game and that always leads to extra fuel in the fire. Bambino’s 21 RBIs leads the Bandits. He will need base runners if he plans on driving in more runs towards a Bandits victory.
Ravens Vs Falcons - The battle of the birds will take place on Field #1 at the end of the day. Al Jr is having another productive season with 31 hits and 21 RBIs. Gil has been on base for several of those runs and has collected 28 hits and has a .400 average for the Ravens.
Leland Vs Emperors - This is a game that definitely had some GOTW potential. Although Leland has won both regular season matchups, they will not forget about losing to the Emps in the MDT. Dave’s 27 RBIs leads Leland and you can be sure he will have a chance to drive in some runs during this game. Both teams have outstanding defenses and this game could always come down to an amazing play or two. This game is scheduled for Mercado field at the end of the day.
See you on the Blvd!

Week 6 Recap
Game of the Week
Gold 10 Vs Leland 1 - This game didn’t live up to the game of the week hype. That is if you are into close battles and are not a member of the Gold. Gold outhit Leland and played tough defense. Eight players drove in at least one run for the Gold. Watts and Albie drove in two runs each for the Gold. For Leland, Ferdi drove in the only run to avoid a shutout.
Other Matchups
Royals 9 Vs Bandits 2 - Royals evened the season score as “Frankie and the Furious Eight” were all business this game. No need to wonder who came up with this name, you can be sure it wasn’t me. Rade drove in 4 runs and was 1-2 with a sacrifice. Frankie, Adam and Darnell had 3 hits apiece. Bambino was 3-4 in this game for the Bandits.
Personal 4 Vs Saints 0 - Personal earns their first shutout victory of the season. Ron was 2-3 with 2, 2-out RBIs. Tutu also had a 2-out RBI and Pedro drove in a run as well. Lee was a perfect 3-3 in the loss.
Leland 11 Vs Falcons 0 - Falcons got shutout again by Leland. Edwin powered Leland going 4-5 with 2 RBIs. Warren was 3-4 with 2 RBIs. Doug and Dave drove in 2 runs each. For the Falcons, Markie and Paul were the only Falcons to collect a hit.
Emperors 4 Vs Royals 1 - Royals fall to the MDT Champs for the 2nd time this season. The Emp’s Eric, continued his hot hitting, going 3-4. Chungo drove in 2 runs and Ricky hit a solo HR, his first of the season. Royals had a hard time putting together a rally. Adam drove in the solo run in his only AB for them.
Stem 6 Vs Personal 3 - There were no ties here as Stem took advantage of some early mistakes and scored all their runs in the 1st inning. Wayne’s 3 run HR was the big shot of the rally. Naz drove in 2 runs, going 1-3. Personal could not put hits together to rally a comeback in this game. Jay and Ron, 2 hits each, were the only players with a multi-hit game.
Gold 2 Vs Stem 0 - Stem did play better against the Gold this time around but it wasn’t enough to earn a victory. Chuchi was a perfect 3-3 and Carlito, 2-3, drove in both of Gold’s runs. Wayne and Sean had 2 hits each for Stem.
Bandits 4 Vs Ravens 2 - Bandits got the best of the Ravens for the 2nd time this season. Damein, Ichie and Melvin collected 2 hits each for the Bandits and four other players drove in a run. Al Jr drove in both of the Ravens runs. None of the Ravens had a mutli-hit game.
Emperors 8 Vs Saints 0 - Emps blanked the Saints again, their fifth shutout victory of the season. Vido collected 4 hits, Chungo and 40 (1 HR) drove in 4 runs each for the Emps. Ralph, 2-3, was the only Saints player with a multi-hit game.
Leland 1 Vs Emperors 0 - Leland edged the Emps once again, this time by holding them to 3 hits. Edwin and Ferdi were both 2-3 for Leland. Doug drove in the only run of the game.
Ravens 7 Vs Falcons 0 - Unfortunately, there’s nothing to write about here as the Falcons forfeited this game. This rarely happens and hopefully is the last time I have to summarize one.
Personal 6 Vs Bandits 4 - Personal earned their 2nd win of the day in this make-up game. Trailing by four runs in the game, Personal was able to score and keep the Bandits from scoring. Freddy was a perfect 3-3, 1 RBI, Pedro and Lionel were both 2-3, 2 RBIs. Ron hit his first HR of the season in a 2-3 effort. Unfortunately, Jay earned the Golden Sombrero award for Personal and hopes not to repeat this unwanted feat.
Ravens 10 Vs Saints 2 - Saints could not keep the score close this time against the Ravens. Ravens totaled 15 hits in this lop-sided win. Nelson hit his 6th HR of the season and drove in 3 runs. Gil, Al Jr and Miguel each collected 3 hits and drove in at least 1 run. Jason and Carlos drove in a run each for the Saints.
Royals 4 Vs Stem 2 - Royals edged the Stem in this game. Frankie had another multi-hit game, 3-4, falling a HR short of a cycle. Kevin, 2-3, drove in 2 runs. Christian and Ruben drove in the other 2 runs. Brandon was the only Stem player with a multi-hit game, 2-3. Dave and Naz drove in a run each in the loss.
See you on the Blvd!

Week 3 Preview
Game of the Week
Stem Vs Saints – Both teams are winless thus far. Yes, it’s early in the season but both teams are under pressure to fill that win column. Both teams are evenly matched according to the stats. Saints have scored 4 runs in 4 games and the Stem has scored 5 in the same amount of games. It’s easy to think the team that hits this game will be the winner.
Other Games
Falcons Vs Bandits – Bandits are one of two teams without a loss so far and the Falcons are winless. The Bandits have received good production from their hitters, especially Lenny and Pena. Anthony has been the Falcons best hitter so far. More players will have to have good games for the Falcons if they want to blemish the Bandits record.
Saints Vs Royals – Last week the Royals gave up 23 runs in 2 games. They will have to tighten up their defense this week. Chris and Darnell have gotten off to hot starts. Saints need to get going to avoid the bottom of the standings. The pressure will be on Mike and Pete Jr to rally the squad.
Personal Vs Emperors – Last week, Personal went 2-0. Ty, Joey and Martin are leading the team in RBIs and will have to keep last week’s momentum to overcome this week’s challenges. Emps arethe 2nd highest scoring team in the league so far and will look to put up another crooked number in this game. Caban, Chungo, Eric and Vido have gotten off to good starts.
Gold Vs Falcons – What happens when you matchup the league’s top offense vs a winless team? We can all expect the Gold to win here but, the truth is we play the games for a reason. Hey, you never know.
Emperors Vs Bandits – Many have been buzzing around the league, wondering if the Bandits are for real. Well, here is a good way to find out, especially on Mercado field. This will be the Bandits first game on this field and this is the Emps 2nd visit here this season (5-4 victory last time).
Royals Vs Ravens – Tied in the standings, this game has some early season meaning for both teams. The Ravens have scored via the long ball. They have hit a total of 7 HR’s and lead the league in that category. Miguel’s 5 RBIs, lead the team. Chris will try to set the table for his Royals.
Gold Vs Personal – Gold has a run differential of 26 while Personal has -11. It’s easy to see what needs to be done to beat the Gold. Gold has been lead by Dusty’s hits (9) and his father’s RBIs (7). Throw in a good defense and Personal has their work cut out for them.
Stem Vs Leland – In the land of trees, only the team that hits can come out victorious. Hitting is what Eddie’s team loves to do. Edwin leads the team with 10 hits. He is tied with Ferdi and Dave for the team leader in RBIs (6). Coree and Anthony are tied for the Stem lead in hits (5). They will need a better contribution from all to beat Leland.
Ravens Vs Leland – Leland has the edge in this one as they have the better defense. But both teams can surely hit the crap out of the ball. This should be a good game to watch, especially if the sun is a factor on Calderon field.
Royals Vs Gold – This is always a good game to see as both teams are known to get on one another with the trash talking. Neither team will back down, no matter what the score is. The respect is there but the will to win is even stronger.
Saints and Falcons – Neither team wants to be in last place and both will try their hardest to make sure it doesn’t happen at the end of this week. This will be the 3rd game of the day for both, so they will give this game everything and anything that’s left in their tanks by the time this one is over.
See you on the Blvd!

Gold is the 2011 Labor Day Champs!
The Bronx Gold has once again proved why they are still the best team in Stickball.
After going 5-1 in the first two days of the 2011 Labor Day Tournament, the Gold beat the West Coast Champs the San Diego Fish Sticks...who happened to go undefeated this past weekend. It what would play out to be one of the best games of the tournament*, the Gold beat the Fish Sticks by a score of 12-9 with the MVP Carlito Santiago and his brother Albie Santiago blasting homeruns.
On the first two days the Gold went 5-1 finishing in 3rd place with the Leland Legends coming in second place with the same record at 5-1. The difference between the two records would be a 1 run differential. These two teams faced each other in the seminal round and Gold won with a score of 8-7 as Leland left two men on base in the bottom of the 7th inning. Our congratulations also go out to Nothing Personal. They played great Stickball and finished in 6th place in their first Labor Day appearance in San Diego.
Thank you San Diego for welcoming us and throwing yet another fantastic Stickball Tournament. Greg, Willie and Jim have done a great job promoting Stickball on the west coast and they can always count on the support of the NYESL.
Stay tuned for more details and pictures of the tournament...
