2012 Memorial Day Tournament Recap

First, we would like to thank all those that made the 2012 MDT happen. The people that work hard to make sure we have a league and tournament, the teams that participated, especially those that flew in and last but not least, those that showed up to watch and support this great event.

The weekend was hot and hazy but when the clouds cleared for a beautiful Memorial Day, one team stood apart from the rest and was crowned the 2012 Memorial Day Champions.

Elimination Monday had several good matchups. In round 1, FishSticks defeated SugarHill, Emperors beat Ravens, Gold sent Puerto Rico packing and Leland cooled off the Heat.

Round 2 had four good teams matched up to go to the championship game. Emperors took out the Gold and Leland beat the FishSticks.

The championship game was set between Leland and Emperors. Emperors jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Their defense played as good as they always do and the bats came through with several timely hits all tournament. The MVP was Vido who was 3 for 4 in this game and also played exceptional defense by making a couple of nice grabs. The Emperors key to the tournament win was playing excellent defense. They allowed 7 runs in the 6 games played on Saturday and Sunday.

Congratulations to the Bronx Emperors for winning the 2012 Memorial Day Tournament.

The weekend was full of highlights worthy of a SportsCenter top 10 on any night. We saw diving catches, full speed catches into the fences, long bombs, walk-off wins and even head first slides at home. Some real tough stickball was played over the weekend, just as expected.
