Gold 10 – Royals 2:
All the NYESL teams headed into week two with a positive mindset as they got rid of the rust from week one. Two teams that did not need to brush off any rust are the Gold and the Royals. These two teams headed into week two with a 2-0 record. The Royals` defense was sharp week one but week two was a different story. I had mentioned that the Royals` offense would also have a tougher task as they faced one of the top defenses in the game. The Gold`s offense woke up early. They tested the Royals` defense and finished the game with 17 hits.
After a quiet first 2 innings, the bats for both sides woke up. With two outs in the top of the 3rd, Pito and Papa hit back to back singles. Dusty followed up these two hits with an RBI single to put the Gold on the board, 1-0. In the bottom half of the 3rd, the Royals answered right back. Chey hit a single and Frankie followed that hit with a double of his own. Eric then brought in both runners, giving the Royals the 2-1 lead heading into the 4th. The Gold were done playing around in the 4th, as they went on to score 7 runs. Stevie and Watts hit back to back doubles. Angel Sr. tied the game with an RBI single. Josh followed Angel with an RBI single as well. Pito and Papo also joined the hit parade with RBI singles, making the score 5-2. The Gold did not stop there. Dusty drove in two more runs with a double. Carlos put the finishing touches with a 2 RBI double. All 9 batters for the Gold had at least one hit in this inning. The Gold never took their foot of the gas. In the top half of the 5th, sub, Chici, started the inning off with a single and Josh followed that up with a single of his own. Papo and Dusty both hit an RBI single, setting the score to 10-2. The Royals` offense was shut down for the rest of the game by the tough Gold defense.
This game looked like it would be a close one after both team`s offenses woke up in the 3rd inning but that was not the case. The Gold showed why they are still one of the top teams to fear in the league. After the 10-2 win, the Gold jumped into first place with a 3-0 record and the Royals dropped to a 2-1 record.
