After a good first week on Stickball Blvd, some teams had some rust to shake off while others looked like they been playing all winter. The Royals hosted the Ravens on field 3 for a 12 pm match up. The Royals had just come off a 5-1 win against Sugar Hill while the Ravens had just come off a 2-0 loss to the Gold. The Royals showed up week one. Like I had mentioned in the preview for this game, the Ravens needed to keep the Royals offense quiet because the Royals like to apply pressure to their opponents early and they like to run up the score sheets. There was one problem though, the Royals could not be stopped this week.
After retiring the Ravens in the top half of the first inning, the Royals would get on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the first inning. The Royals started off the inning with back to back singles by Chey and Frankie. Eric would then get an RBI single to put the Royals on the board. With two runners on base and one out, Kevin hits a 2 RBI single. Ruben will follow this up with another RBI single. With two outs, Jonathan hits a clutch RBI single which gave the Royals a comfortable 5-0 lead. After two scoreless innings, the Royals` bats came alive again. In the bottom half of the 4th inning, Jonathan would start of the inning with a double. Chey would follow this up with a single. Frankie would also hit a single driving in one run. Eric would drive in one more run with a single. The new Royals teammate, Dave, would hit a monster triple that drove in 2 runs. Kevin would go on to drive Dave in with an RBI double giving the Royals a 10-0 lead and also having the mercy rule in affect. The Ravens` teammate Dax would hit a single in the top half of the 5th inning to keep his team alive but that was not enough. The Royals go on to defeat the Ravens 10-0.
The Ravens looked rusty in this game. Their defense was not strong and their offense was no where to be found. This is only week one so do not expect this display to count the Ravens out. The Ravens will look to bounce back next week as they face the Saints and the Emperors. On the other hand, the offensive power of the Royals was on full display this Sunday. This team is looking to carry their momentum to week two as they face the Gold and the Saints.
