The Powerade Game of The Week took on a playoff atmosphere and Opening Day had little to do with it. You see both teams have a Love Hate relationship. Many of the Leland Legends have played for the 15 Time Champion Emperors and many of those chips were accrued because of those players contributions. On the Emperors there are players who feel they are lacking the respect to some extent from the past Emperors for their accomplishments of last year and thus the animosity between these two
clubs. A couple weeks ago there was a challenge thrown down at the NYESL Dance between two of the best shortstops in the game today if not the two best.
The trash talking got so intense the two players forgot they were at Co-Op City Blvd not Stickball Blvd. The trash talking boiled into a frenzy with both players promising to out perform the other. Fast forward to the 3rd inning and one of the players backed up his words with a wicked linedrive 2 run Homer to give Leland Legends a 4-0 lead, Eddie F out performed his counterpart Eric Rivera offensively. Eddie F and his son Edwin Jr had a combined 5 hits and 6 rbi. The Emperors made a furious rally in the 4th inning tying the game as Deep OutFielder Chungo hit a 2 out long flyball that was dropped by outfielder Mick Olivero allowing the game to be tied 4-4. The Game stood tied for two innings until the Father son connection struck again capped off by Edwin Jrs home run. The Rodriguez’ put Leland on their back and carried them to a 7-4 win.
“Big victory over our arch nemesis, they have had our number the last couple years”, says Leland Captain Eddie F. Emperors Team Captain Vido says “they took round 1 we now know what to do in rounds 2 and 3″. Yeah! keep Eddie F in Co-Op City Blvd. ” Although we didnt play well we still had a chance in the last inning which says a lot about our lineup, as for my counterpart, congrats you played great offensively”. In week one the PowerAde Most Valuable Player was Leland Legends Team Captain Eddie F. Congratulations Eddie F and Leland Legends on your victory in the PowerAde Game of the Week. Til next week Happy Easter!
