Game of the Week- Leland 6 vs Emperors 5
The week 5 game of the week lived up to the hype. Both Leland and the Emperors came into this match-up after winning 2 games each in week 4. The Emperors jumped out to the lead with an RBI double from Eric in the first. Vido added an RBI double in the second inning to make it 2-0 Emperors. Leland struck back for 4 runs in the bottom of the third on 4 straight RBI hits from Eddie F, Dave, Edwin, and then Ferdi. Chungo brought the Emperors within 1 run with a solo HR in the 4th and then Ant Live tied the game in the 5th with a clutch 2 out RBI single. In the bottom of the 6th, Leland grabbed the lead on Izzy’s RBI single. But the Emperors came right back in the top of the 7th and tied it on Eric’s 2 out RBI double. But this game would end in no tie as all it took was one at bat by Leland in the bottom of the 7th to win the game. Eddie F said forget the drama and lets go home with the walk-off.
D’Backs 3 vs Devils 1- The Devils had their way with the D’Backs in their first match-up and were looking to do more of the same in this one. The D’Backs had other ideas. The D’Backs scored first on Anthony’s RBI sac fly in the third. Jay added an RBI single to give the D’Backs a 2-0 lead. Martin added a solo HR for the D’Backs in the 6th to give them a 3-0 lead. The Devils were unable to get the offense going in this game. Their only run came on Brian’s RBI single in the seventh. After their impressive start, the Devils have struggled and this game marked their 3rd straight loss.
D’Backs 6 vs Ravens 4- The Ravens had to feel good coming into this week as they got a couple players back and faced off against the only team they had beaten all year in the D’Backs. In the first the Ravens took the lead with Tims solo HR. After a hit by Ed, Skylar made his 2014 debut in style with the 2-run HR to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead. Lionel cut the lead to 3-1 and put the D’Backs on the board with his solo HR in the second. Nelson hit a solo shot for the Ravens to get the run right back. Down 4-1, the D’Backs made their move in the 4th. Lou cut into the lead with an RBI double, and Mark tied the game with a big 2-run single. The game remained tied in the seventh when the D’Backs struck again. Jays RBI triple and Martins RBI single put the D’Backs ahead for good and propelled them to their second win of the day.
Emperors 3 vs Royals 3- The Emperors were looking to stay hot and exact some revenge on their week 2 loss to the Royals. The Emperors took the early lead with Erics RBI double in the first. Vido extended the lead in the second to 3-0 with a 2-run ground rule double. But the Royal bats wouldn’t stay quite for long. Eric hit a 2-run double to bring the Royals within 1 run, and then Ruben tied the game at 3 with his RBI single. Neither team could score again in this one as both defenses tightened up and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Leland 3 vs Saints 2- Leland has been on a roll as they came into this game winners of 4 straight and were looking to make it 5. Leland took the lead in the first on Ferdi’s RBI. The Saints tied the game in the 5th on Micks RBI double. The tie was short-lived however. Dave hit a towering HR in the bottom of the 5th, and Ferdi added an RBI double to give Leland a 3-1 lead. The Saints did their best to come back in the 7th. Gil hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 1, and the Saints had 2 men on with 1 out. But Mick and Pete couldn’t bring in the tying run and Leland held on for the 3-2 win.
The Gold 11 vs Devils 1– The Gold was out to prove the Devils upset win in week 2 was a fluke. Carlitos put the Gold ahead with an RBI single in the first. Dusty added an RBI triple to make in 2-0 Gold in the third. The Gold broke the game open in the 4th with 4 runs. Alex hit an RBI single, followed by Watts RBI double, and capped off by Josh’s 2-run sac fly. The runs kept coming in the 5th for the Gold. Frankie added an RBI and Chuchie hit a 2-run HR in the inning. Raul and Chickie added RBI’s in the 7th. The lone Devils run came on Marcus’ RBI ground out in the 5th and they dropped their 4th straight game.
Saints 11 vs Royals 4- The Royals had their way with the Saints the first time around, but the Saints exacted some revenge in this match-up. Mick started the party in the first with a 2-run HR. The Royals came right back in the bottom half of the first. Kevin hit an RBI double to bring the Royals within 1, and then Ruben followed with a 2-run double to give the Royals a 3-2 lead. But that would be it for the Royal offense. The Saints tied the game in the third on Joeys RBI double In the 5th. In the 5th, Pete broke the 3-3 tied with an RBI ground out, and Joey added a 2-run HR. In the 6th the Saints added 3 more runs on RBI’s from Gil, Mick, and Ron. Erik added an RBI double and Gil had another RBI hit to finish off the Saints rout of the Royals. The Royals have gone 1-2-2 since starting 5-0 and their potent offense has been striking out at an alarming rate.
The Gold 6 vs Ravens 0- The Gold had been flying under the radar with the good start from some other teams, and that’s fine by them. Pito got the Gold offense started with an RBI single on the third. Stevie added to the lead with a sac fly, followed by Dusty’s RBI double and Chuchie’s RBI single. Already up 4-0, the Gold extended the lead in the 5th on Josh’s RBI double. Pito capped off the scoring with a solo HR in the sixth. The Raven offense continued to struggle and dropped to a league worst 1-9.
